Yes. An adjustable measuring cup works like a syringe the width of a jam jar.
Anyone who’s made flapjacks or peanut butter cookies knows the routine. Spoon the peanut butter into a measuring cup, level it off, then spend a minute chasing the last third of it round the inside with a spatula. Honey and golden syrup are worse, because they cling to everything and you never quite get it all out. So the recipe ends up a little short, and the cup needs a proper soak.
The OXO version is a clear cylinder with a plunger inside. You turn the body to slide the plunger down to the amount you want, fill the space above it, level it off, and then push the plunger back up from the bottom. The whole lot comes out in one clean column. There’s a silicone disc on top of the plunger that wipes the walls as it goes up, like a squeegee, so almost nothing gets left behind.

The details
- It holds 2 cups, and it’s marked in cups, ounces and millilitres, so it’s still useful if your recipes are metric.
- Runny and dry things work too. The rim is wide enough to pour from, so water, milk or flour are fine in it. I’d still keep a normal jug for big quantities of liquid.
- It goes in the dishwasher and it’s BPA free.
- It’s tall rather than wide, about the size of a pint glass, so it stands up in a cupboard fine.
I’d mostly use it for tahini, Greek yoghurt, mashed banana, shortening or coconut oil straight from the jar. If you only use honey once a month to drizzle on porridge, this is overkill and a spoon will do. If you bake with that stuff every week, it’s worth the cupboard space.
