Every kitchen has one. The ketchup bottle that’s “nearly empty” but clearly still has a good spoonful clinging to the sides, sitting on its head against the back of the fridge door and falling over every time someone opens it.
You can shake it, bang it, add a splash of water (please don’t, it ruins the ketchup) or cut the bottle open with scissors. Or you can let gravity do it properly.
The Flip-It! kit swaps your bottle’s own lid for a cap with a wide, flat base. You screw it on, stand the bottle upside down, and everything slowly runs down to the cap. When you want some, you open the valve and squeeze. The bottle stands up on its own, so it doesn’t topple over in the fridge door.
This pack comes with six base caps and six adapters in three sizes, two each of large, medium and small, so you can have several bottles going at once. Flip-It says the caps fit most standard screw-top plastic bottles.
Thick stuff is where it pays off. Ketchup, brown sauce, mayo in a squeezy bottle, honey, golden syrup, salad cream. Thin things like soy sauce pour out fine anyway, so don’t bother with those.
Out of the kitchen, the same caps work on shampoo, conditioner and hand soap, which is probably where the bigger savings are. Expensive body lotion is the worst for leaving a good inch stuck in the bottom.
Two things to know. “Most bottles” isn’t all bottles, and glass bottles and some oddly shaped squeezy tops won’t take them, so expect the odd one that just won’t fit. Very cold, thick sauces also take their time running down. Give it overnight rather than expecting the bottle to empty while you make chips.
I’ll admit it’s a slightly daft thing to get excited about. But if you hate throwing out half a bottle of anything, the Flip-It! 6-bottle kit on Amazon is oddly satisfying.
